Visitation Pastor

bob-200x300Pastor Bob Smith is a native of Southern Illinois, born at Centralia in 1931. Graduated from Centralia High School in 1948. Attended Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952, and Asbury Theological Seminary with a M.Div. degree in 1955.

Bob Smith served a total of 24 years as a pastor of Free Methodist churches in central and southern Illinois, all in the Central Illinois Conference (now Gateway). He was elected Conference Superintendent of the Central Illinois Conference in 1968 serving six three-year terms until 1986. During those years he established the conference office in Greenville, Illinois to centrally serve our 45 churches located in central and southern Illinois and the city of St. Louis, Missouri. He served a total of 42 years in full-time ministry.

Other ministry included four years as Area Youth Representative for the Free Methodist Church and eighteen years as a member of the World Mission Budget Committee for our General Church.

He retired from full-time ministry in 1997 completing a total of 15 years as pastor of Moundford Free Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois. In retirement he continued ministering as Visitation Pastor on the Moundford Church staff and as a Staff Chaplain at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Bob married Dorothy Louise Connor of Albion, Michigan in 1954. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 2004 with their three children, their spouses and nine grandchildren.
